Professional Enhancement Awards

 

John and Martha Woeste Professional Development Award
To encourage effective young faculty in the Florida Cooperative Extension Service to participate in professional development activities.  Award should be presented to an outstanding Extension faculty member, county or statewide with a strong proposal for professional development.  In 100 words or less, indicate how the proposed professional improvement plan will impact the effectiveness of the Florida Cooperative Extension Program. Please attach the statement to the application form.  Recipient should have less than seven (7) years of service in the Florida Cooperative Extension Service.  Faculty must apply for this award.  Reimburses up to $500.00 of documented educational expenses.

Marshall and Mildred Watkins Professional Improvement Award
Award should be presented to an outstanding Extension faculty member, county or statewide with a strong proposal for professional development.  In 100 words or less, indicate how the proposed professional improvement plan will impact the effectiveness of the Florida Cooperative Extension Program. Master Gardener Distinguished Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To provide a term professorship to a dedicated and outstanding Extension faculty member working with the Master Gardener Program in Florida.  Faculty must be nominated for this award. There will be no self-nominations; nominees will be chosen by a select Master Gardener committee. One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $1,500 for program support.

Art Hornsby Distinguished Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To recognize state and county faculty with a term professorship for creative contributions and outreach programs related to soil and water sciences. Candidates must be nominated by their Unit Administrators or peers; no self-nomination. One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support.

Sadler Distinguished Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To provide a term professorship and program support to state or county Extension faculty who have developed an exemplary education program for citizens in central Florida. Candidates must be nominated by their Unit Administrators or peers; no self-nomination. Awards are available to faculty working in Orange, Seminole, Lake, Brevard, Osceola, Volusia, Citrus, Flagler, Hernando, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, or St. Johns counties. One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support. Two awards will be provided.

Alto Straughn 4-H Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To recognize state and county faculty for creative contributions and outreach programs related to 4-H/youth development. Candidates must be nominated by their Unit Administrators or peers; no self-nomination.
One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support.

Wachovia Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
This term professorship will be given to state or county faculty members who have a distinguished record of Extension programming and who have implemented creative, innovative educational programs and educational products in the public policy arena of land and water use, urban/rural interface, families and children, environmental quality, human resources development and competitiveness/trade. As these public policy issues are often complex, these extension faculty may work in partnership with community agencies, state government, other universities, community colleges, and other institutions with the best expertise in these areas to address current and future public policy issues. Candidates must be nominated by their Unit Administrators or peers; no self-nomination. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of Extension experience.  One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support.

Seymour Goldweber Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To provide a term professorship to an outstanding Extension faculty member or county agent who has developed an educational program that contributes to making the Florida Extension Service one of the best in the nation. Candidates must be nominated by their Unit Administrators or peers; no self-nomination. Awards are available to faculty working in Charlotte, Glades, Martin, Lee, Hendry, Palm Beach, Collier, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties. Candidate must have national recognition from a professional organization or society. One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support.

Mary Harrison Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To provide a term professorship to state or county extension faculty and program support for a specific development activity in the area of Family, Youth and Community Science. Candidates must be state or county Family and Consumer Science faculty with 5 years or more of experience in Florida Extension. Candidates may receive the award for 3 consecutive years.  One time salary supplement of $1,000 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support.

Dallas Townsend Extension Professional Enhancement Award
Recognize a County Extension Agent and a State Extension Specialist each with a one-year term professorship for demonstrating an outstanding ability to plan and implement Extension Programs that address needs which have been identified in consultation with their clientele.  The County Extension Agent’s appointment must indicate not less than a 70% responsibility for Extension programs in the field of agriculture.  The remaining 30% or less program responsibility will be preferably in 4-H Youth programing, but may be in other disciplines.  A County Extension Director’s appointment must indicate not less than a 50% program responsibility for agricultural programs.  The Extension Specialist’s appointment must indicate not less than a 70% responsibility for Extension programs in the field of agriculture.  Faculty may apply or be nominated.  Each recipient (a County Extension Agent and a State Extension Specialist) will receive a one-time salary supplement of $2,700 for appointment of term professorship and a one-time grant of $900 to support an identified program activity or for professional improvement and development.

Christine Taylor Waddill Extension Professional and Enhancement Award
To provide a term professorship and program support to state or county extension faculty who promote outstanding educational programs and demonstrate scholarship in Extension. Candidates must be state or county faculty with 5 years or more of experience. One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 for program support.

Alto and Patrecia Straughn Extension Educational Improvement Award
Provides a term professorship and program support to county faculty for continuing education and other professional improvement as approved by the Dean for Extension.  Selection will be based on proposal to further education through academic training or professional development that is an enhancement to the nominee’s current Extension program.  One time salary supplement of $1,500 for appointment of term professorship and $500 program support.

Alden Hilliker 4-H Professional Enhancement Award
Award provides support for graduate study to faculty who provided outstanding programming in the area of 4-H Youth Development.  Reimburses up to $500.00 of documented educational expenses.
