Biography
Dr. Joan A. Dusky is currently Associate Dean for Extension in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida. Dr. Dusky provides leadership and support for the development and delivery of Extension educational programs related to agriculture and natural resource industries as well as urban horticultural programs. She works closely with Extension specialists and county-based faculty through state program teams and other organizational units to encourage to progressive, new, and timely delivery of research-based information to producers and associated clientele in the state via the county Extension faculty.
Dr. Dusky has been with the University of Florida for twenty-seven years. She began her career as a weed scientist in 1978 with the USDA Metabolism and Radiation Research Laboratory in Fargo, ND. She joined the faculty at the University of Florida in 1980 as an Assistant Professor at the Everglades Research and Education Center, where she was responsible for Research and Extension weed management programs for rice, sugarcane, turfgrass, pastures, and vegetable crops. Dr. Dusky’s programs focused on herbicide efficacy, weed/crop interactions, weed biology, herbicide resistance, and allelopathy.
She has published more than 200 journal articles, proceedings, abstracts, extension reports, circulars, bulletins, and fact sheets. Dr. Dusky received the USDA Honor Award for her collaborative efforts in developing glyphosate resistant lettuce in 1997. She was selected to participate in the National Extension Leadership Program in 1999. She has held several offices within her professional organizations over the years.
Dr. Dusky holds a Ph.D. in Botany from North Dakota State University (1978); an M.S. in Botany from North Dakota State University (1975); and a B.S. in Biology from Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio (1973).
