Welcome to the MM2019 Conference!

After those successfully held in North Carolina (2017), South Carolina (2015) and Kentucky (2013), the time has come to make plans for the 2019 Middle Managers Conference in Florida. Your joint organizing committee with members from the University of Florida (UF) and Florida Agriculture & Mechanics University (FAMU) welcomes you to our state and to this professional development conference of the Middle Managers of the Southern Region and those who aspire to become one.

The conference title this year is “What’s in your leadership toolbox?”.  While we let others let you worry about what’s in your wallet, the conference program (Agenda) is fully focused on tools for leadership and management.  The first day program will include the Welcome Reception and Opening Session at the conference hotel. The second day will be the day of tours – where we will learn by seeing and doing at businesses, packing houses, preserves, and aquatic ecosystems. Associated program support and discussion will be led by extension faculty from Sarasota and Manattee Counties. Bring your notepads, cameras, and since this is Florida in April, don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen. The technical program on the third and morning of the fourth days will address communication tools (presenting science to general audiences; talking to the media; difficult conversations; conflict management; and Face Book Live) and learning from each other (peer-to-peer sharing and ignite sessions). Meals and breaks will also provide opportunities for further discussions and networking.

Completing your registration is an easy 3-step process;

  1. Register for the MM2019 conference HERE.  Early registration is open between October 20 and November 19 ($450/attendee); main registration will between November 20 and January 11 ($495/attendee). Registration includes tours, meetings, breaks, and welcome reception (Monday), b’fast, lunch and dinner (Tuesday), b’fast and lunch (Wednesday) and b’fast (Thursday).
  2. Book your room at the Sarasota Embassy Suite at this site. The room rate is $159.00 + 12% tax, tax is later removed for those in Florida with a exempt certificate and payment with a PCard.
  3. Make you transportation arrangements – by car (drive down I-75 and take the Fruitville Rd/SR 780 exit ) or by plane. We recommend the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport (SQR) located 5 miles north of the conference hotel.

Registration Refund Policy (from confirmation emails and the registration website): 

Refund Policy: Requests for registration refunds will be honored if written notification of cancellation is received by the Office of Conferences and Institutes. A 20% processing fee will be deducted from all refunds until January 15, 2019. After that date, a 60% processing fee will apply up until February 15, 2019.
